Abstract

运盈彩票官网 In this seminar I will talk about Wuhan, where I come from, the capital city of central city. By linking the case of Wuhan’s growth and development during the last decades to recent theoretical debates of global city and ‘ordinary’ city, I aim to articulate the imperative interactions of market, society, and state, especially against the context of post-reform China. I will focus on the significance of local forces, the local state, entrepreneurs, critical juncture, and path dependency or creation. The cases of Wuhan indicate ‘state entrepreneurism’, as claimed by Fulong Wu – the combination of both market instruments and planning centrality. Moreover, it articulates ‘development matters’, and the ‘art of being global’ is featured by assemblage or juxtapositions of different ideas, actors, or practices, from diverse sources.
